As the year draws to a close and a new year begins, it seems to be the perfect time to reflect on what we’ve been through, what we’ve accomplished and how much we’ve grown, and possibly think of what’s in store for us. I tend to get quite reflective around this time of year, as I do around my birthday, and I generally take to my journal to do so. But this year I decided to share them in a different way.
From Recovery to Growth
Whilst 2023 served as my ‘recovery’ year, from quite a trauma that I had been going through in the previous years, I’m considering 2024 as a year of growth and change. A lot of experiences I’ve had this year came by rather unexpectedly, and I guess this is why I generally avoid planning ahead. But I count them all as wonderful blessings that have definitely contributed to my personal growth.
So what was I up to in 2024?
Creating a Home
After over two years of hard work and planning, I finally achieved something deeply meaningful: creating my own ‘home’. Post-separation, I temporarily moved back into my mum’s house until I could rebuild my life. This October I finally managed to move into my own apartment which is finally starting to feel like home. I had never really felt I had a home after we left my childhood one, so having this safe space, which feels like an extension of my character, is quite special. It’s funny how life works in circles, it was around three years earlier that I had moved out of my marital home and back to Mum’s.

A New Chapter in my Career
In March, a very unexpected career opportunity came my way. For the past years, I felt fulfilled in my role as Head of Marketing at Malta’s National Theatre. But life (or ‘Top Management’) had different plans! I’ve been entrusted to build and grow a new business department, and this new role feels like the perfect fit. Every project excites me, every challenge inspires me to grow! The creativity, strategy, and problem-solving involved in this position have pushed me to new heights. It’s demanding, yes—but incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to continue growing into this new role in the coming year!

Spontaneous Adventures
Another unexpected experience that came about was a trip to India (you’ll read a lot more about this in a separate post that I’ve been working on). Whilst having dreamed of visiting this country since my teens, I had not planned on making it happen this year. It’s been a truly special opportunity, and I’m really glad for the impromptu decision to say ‘F*ck all! We only live once!’ Not only did we witness breathtaking sights and unforgettable adventures, but I was gifted the opportunity to meet some incredible people who left their mark on my heart. It was a reminder to embrace life’s unpredictability and seize opportunities when they come.

Growing Within
I’ve also been working a lot on myself to keep growing and (hopefully) improving as a person. This is even reflected in the books I’ve been reading. My main aim is to always have a more positive outlook on life and to try and better control my overthinking. This is a continuous journey that will be one of my main goals for the coming year (and the years following, I’m quite sure. We never really stop learning, developing and growing right. Or at least, I believe, that we should seek to keep doing so.)
I’ve also seen incredible growth in my relationships. My closest friends have become my anchors, teaching me about the many forms of love. While I sometimes wonder what it might be like to share my life with a partner, my heart feels full thanks to the incredible humans I already have in my life.

Looking Ahead to 2025
So what’s next?
I’ve handwritten a list of goals for 2025 with specific targets that I’ll keep private for now. I hope however I’ll be able to share that list and tick items off it next year. Broadly, I’m determined to keep working on my physical, mental and emotional wellbeing; grow my self-confidence; keep growing in my career; read more,;and try to get more performance opportunities. But above all, I look forward to welcoming the unknown: more spontaneity, changes, challenges, and adventures. So bring on 2025! Here’s to making it this the best year yet!
